Saint Vincent de Paul - (814)-643-2222

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is an international Catholic lay organization designed to assist people in need.  The Society was formed in Paris in 1835 and quickly spread throughout the world.  The first United States Society was started in St. Louis, MO in 1845.  Today, Saint Vincent de Paul has 800,000 members in 140 countries.  Locally, there are two Society conferences in Huntingdon County; one at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Huntingdon and one at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Mount Union.

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul assists individuals and families without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

Individuals or families experiencing financial emergencies with basic needs have been assisted by the Society, including housing, heat, utilities, furniture, or appliances. However, no act of charity is foreign to the Society.

Members of Saint Vincent de Paul arrange to meet with individuals or families in their home whenever possible.  Home visits are important for fulfilling the Society's mission of walking with the poor as friends.  The home visit also enables members to reach out in friendship to those requesting help.  The Society works with other Huntingdon County agencies and churches to coordinate help for those in need.

Generous donations from parishioners of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, service groups such as Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and Veterns of Foreign Wars help to support the local group.  The Society is a participating agency of the Huntingdon County United Way.  In addition, Most Holy Trinity St. Vincent de Paul receives funds from Our Lady of Victory Conference in State College.

St. Vincent de Paul provides Christmas baskets to about 180 families each year.  The baskets include a complete turkey dinner and a gift for each child.  Items for the baskets are donated by members of the parish, the staff and students of Juniata College, and members of the community.

To request help or a Christmas basket from St. Vincent de Paul, please call our phone line at (814)-643-2222.  A volunteer will return your call in 24 to 48 hours.  All information is kept completely confidential.
